This policy explains what personal data YUKIND collects, why we need it, and how you stay in control of it.
Who we are

We are the controller of your personal data and are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office ([ICO registration number]).
Questions about your data: hello@yukind.uk.
What we collect
Everyone
- Your name, email address and password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form).
- Messages, photos and files you send in chat, and any reviews, reports or blocks you make.
- Basic technical information, such as your device type, app version and error logs.
Dog owners
- Details about your dog: name, breed, size, age, photo, care needs and notes.
- Your bookings: dates, service, the sitters you contacted and the sitter you chose.
- Payment records. Your card details are entered into and held by Stripe, our payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.
Sitters
- Your profile: photo, bio, areas covered, prices, experience and the dog sizes you care for.
- Your answers to our application questions.
- Your DBS certificate.
- Your identity check: a photo of your ID document and a selfie, which you give directly to Stripe. Stripe checks them and tells us only whether you're verified.
- Payout details, which you give directly to Stripe. We receive only the status of your payout account.
Waitlist
- Your first name, email address, borough, and whether you are an owner or a sitter.
How we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Creating your account, matching owners with sitters, bookings, chat and payments | Contract |
| Checking sitters' identity, DBS certificates and application answers | Legitimate interests (keeping dogs and owners safe) and, for DBS information, the conditions described below |
| Reviews, reports, blocking and preventing fraud or misuse | Legitimate interests |
| Keeping payment and tax records | Legal obligation |
| Emailing the waitlist when YUKIND opens | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Fixing problems and improving the app | Legitimate interests |
DBS certificates
Information in a DBS certificate is criminal offence data. We use it only to decide whether a sitter can safely care for dogs in people's homes. Access is limited to the YUKIND staff who review applications, and we never show it to owners. Owners only see that a sitter's DBS check has been reviewed.
Who can see your data
- Other YUKIND users. Owners see sitters' public profiles and reviews. Sitters see the dog details and messages in requests sent to them. Your email address is never shown to other users.
- Our service providers, who process data on our behalf under contract: Supabase (app database, sign-in and file storage), Stripe (payments, payouts and identity checks), Apple (app distribution), Google (business email), GitHub (hosts this website and keeps short technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security).
- Authorities, where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
We never sell your personal data.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. When they do, they use safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account, for as long as it is open. You can delete it at any time in the app.
- Payment and booking records, for 6 years, to meet UK tax and accounting rules.
- DBS certificates, while your sitter account is active, and deleted within 30 days of closing it.
- Messages, reports and blocks, for up to 2 years after your last booking, so we can look into safety concerns.
- The waitlist, until YUKIND opens near you, or until you ask us to remove you.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or send it to another service. You can also object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@yukind.uk and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers, so there's nothing to accept or decline. The app keeps you signed in by storing a secure sign-in token on your phone, which is strictly necessary for it to work.
Children
YUKIND is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
